The WS2812 is an RGB LED with a WS2811 control IC built right into the LED. This really blew our minds to see the control IC of an individually addressable RGB LED was moved into the actual LED, so we wanted to offer this amazing product to you- the RGB LED Ring from CJMCU, a small chainable 2.6" (66mm) outer diameter board equipped with 5050 WS2812 RGB LEDs. The WS2812s are each addressable as the driver chip is located inside the LED. Each NeoPixel Stick has ~18mA constant current drive so the color will be very consistent even if the voltage varies, and requires 5V.
We fit several of our tiny 5050 (5mm x 5mm) smart RGB LEDs onto a beautiful, round or ring PCB with mounting holes and a chainable design to create what we think is our most elegant (and evening-wear appropriate) NeoPixel board yet.
Use only one microcontroller pin to control as many as you can chain together! Each LED is addressable as the driver chip is inside the LED. Each one has ~18mA constant current drive so the color will be very consistent even if the voltage varies, and no external choke resistors are required making the design slim. Power the whole thing with 5VDC and you're ready to rock.
We have many variety for your own choice, 3/5/7/8/12/16/24 LEDs as you need. Every ring or round is equipped with a single data line with a very timing-specific protocol requiring a real-time microconroller with a 8MHz or faster processor such as an AVR, Arduino-compatible, PIC, mbed, etc. There are solder pads on the back for connecting wires or breadboard pins and two mounting holes for securing this board to many different surfaces.It cannot be used with a Linux-based microcomputer or interpreted microcontroller such as the netduino or Basic Stamp.
