Story
The project
My project involves creating unique fluorescent printed circuit boards (PCBs) that transform into luminous works of art under UV light.
I designed these PCBs to shine brightly when exposed to ultraviolet light, offering a captivating and innovative visual experience.
how the project started?
The inspiration for this project came about by chance when I discovered an old PCB from a 90s DNA sequencer in my workshop.
While sweeping my workspace with a UV lamp, I was immediately fascinated by the impressive luminescence of this PCB.
It reminded me of the importance of aesthetics in technology and sparked the idea of combining these two elements to create something truly unique. Additionally, my interest in programmable electronic timers were crucial factors in bringing this project to life.
How does it work?
The process of creating these fluorescent PCBs is both technical and artistic:
-
Designing the Patterns:
- I use the KiCad software to design customized patterns and schematics that highlight the fluorescent properties of the materials used.
-
Applying Fluorescent Varnishes and Paints:
- I select specific industrial and automotive fluorescent varnishes and paints that react to UV light.
- These materials are meticulously applied to the blank PCBs.
-
Finishing Techniques:
- I ensure a smooth and even application of the fluorescent materials to achieve a consistent and attractive glow under UV light.
- Each piece is checked and adjusted to guarantee both aesthetic appeal and optimal functionality.
-
Testing and Validation:
- Each piece is tested to ensure proper functionality and aesthetic quality.
- Performance is validated under different lighting conditions to ensure an impressive luminous effect.
These visuals showcase the transformation of the PCBs under UV light, revealing their fluorescent patterns and unique glow.
This project of fluorescent PCBs represents an exciting fusion of technology and art.
I am thrilled to share this innovation with the Elecrow community and hope to inspire other creative and technological projects.
