Story
Today we would like to introduce you to the CrowPanel Pico development board, which combines a Raspberry Pi RP2040 with a 3.5 inch touch display. It is a versatile module with enough interfaces to be of interest to hobby electronics engineers, hobbyists and programmers for many projects and tinkering.
When looking at the main features of the development board, the first thing you notice is the 3.5-inch TFT LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 480×320 pixels.
The board is powered by the well-known high-performance Raspberry Pi RP2040 chip, which contains a dual-core 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ CPU with a clock frequency of up to 133 MHz.
As 14 GPIO connections are accessible from the outside via Dupont sockets, various sensors and output devices can be conveniently connected for testing. GPIO 20 and 21 are also available as additional I2C connections.
During the tests carried out, the functionality of various components of a project was checked. Firstly, an LED flashing test was carried out in which an LED was successfully connected to GPIO pin 5 and flashed as expected. The initialisation of a TFT display was then tested, whereby a text message was correctly displayed in the centre of the screen. A DHT20 sensor was connected via the I2C pins and the temperature and humidity data was successfully shown on the display. Touch functionality was implemented, allowing an LED to be switched on and off by touching the screen. Finally, a customised user interface with sensor data and touch control was created, providing an engaging and functional interface. Overall, all tests were successful and confirmed the correct integration of the components.
